About the event

Join us to witness the resurrection of the prehistoric humongous fungus, Prototaxites. Co-created by mycophiles and local artists from Casa Mundi Studio during Fungus Fortnight 2021, this towering clay structure was created from clay whose hollow spaces are to become home to the descendants of this old man of rock and water. Artists Jack and Emily will tell stories of this fungi's evolutionary history and its importance.

At the dawn of time and when the land was raw and dead, the first great fungus drew together mighty towers that dominated the landscape. Prototaxites (the first yew) broke down rock into soil and connected the plants to bacteria, it nurtured the land like a gardener and today we pay homage to its great works and benevolent attention.

Location: Casa Mundi Studio is located on James Lane, Leyton, E10 6JD (garage with the green door, to the rear of 24 Lyndhurst Drive)

Nearest stations: Leyton Midland Overground & Leytonstone Underground
