About the event
Fungi & rivers - the missing link
Fungi are usually associated with terrestrial habitats, like forests and grassland, but their role in sustaining healthy aquatic ecosystems – including rivers – is often overlooked. This guided walk for London Rivers Week 2024 will explore how wood-decaying fungi are fundamental to the biodiversity and shape of rivers.
We'll get to know one of East London's urban rivers, including its natural habitats, the legacy of human engineering and land use, plus the role of fungi in promoting biodiversity.
London Rivers Week is an annual celebratation of London’s rivers and the projects taking place to protect them. More info via Thames21: www.thames21.org.uk/london-rivers-week-2024
Mushrooms are mysterious. They capture our imagination like no other organisms. Perceived as live-giving, mind-blowing and deadly, they simultaneously inspire fear, wonder and confusion. Against the odds, fungi thrive in big cities like London too.
Families are most welcome, including children accompanied by an adult. Please note that this event is for educational purposes and is not a foraging course.
