About the event
A collection of photographs documenting the variety of fungi at our feet (or sometimes above our heads) in the woodlands in and around Highams Park, Waltham Forest.
Taken during the lockdown of 2020, observing the mushrooms in her local area provided inspiration and focus for photographer Kaamilah Nahaboo, combining nature, walking and creativity - three factors for mental wellbeing. To observe the natural world changing through the seasons, just as it always has done and hopefully will continue to do so, is a very grounding experience. Fungi can change so rapidly, with the life-cycle of some mushrooms lasting just 24 hours. The exhibition illustrates the magic of spotting a new patch of mushrooms - and realising there is so much going on underground, with the symbiotic relationship between trees and mycelium.
Free entry, no need to book.
Opening times: Monday to Friday: 8am-4pm, Saturday/Sunday: 8am-5pm.
Humphry’s Cafe is located in The Highams Park (near the Lake), via Tamworth Avenue, IG8 9RB.
Fungus Fortnight is supported by Waltham Forest Council.
